Ask a Renaissance member where to eat and the answer has been the same for years: pop out the back gate, hit Daniels Parkway, and pick from the handful of reliable counters that have anchored that stretch since before the club's 2020 renovation. That instinct is not wrong. It is just no longer complete.
The most talked-about restaurant opening in south Fort Myers this year did not land on Daniels Parkway at all. It opened several minutes further southwest, closer to Gulf Coast Town Center, in a building most members would recognize as the old Chili's. A couple of miles down, Artisan Eatery at 8951 Daniels Pkwy has built a loyal brunch following around a menu from a chef trained at the International Culinary School in Philadelphia. Fiddlesticks Cafe, with its golf-themed dining room, and Casa Blanca round out the stretch that regularly shows up on local best-of lists for the corridor.
None of this is news, and that is the point. This is the errand-run tier of Renaissance's dining map: the places you default to on a Tuesday, not the places you plan around. The Club at Renaissance itself sits just off Daniels Road, one of the main arteries in Fort Myers, which is exactly why this strip has functioned as the community's kitchen for two decades. It was never going anywhere. It just was not where 2026's actual restaurant news was happening.
What Actually Landed In January
Chuck Lager Legendary Kitchen opened its doors on January 26, 2026, at 9980 University Plaza Drive, a location the local business press placed near Gulf Coast Town Center and off Alico Road, just east of Interstate 75 in south Fort Myers. That geography matters for a Renaissance resident: it is a genuinely different direction than the Daniels Parkway routine, closer to the Gulf Coast Town Center retail corridor than to the club's own back gate.
The concept is the creation of Top Chef alum and Food Network personality Fabio Viviani, built around flatbreads, street tacos, hand-cut Angus ribeye, and a beer list heavy on Southwest Florida names, including a Kaleidoscope Beer Co. collaboration out of Naples and a Scotty's Bierwerks partnership from Cape Coral. Most entrees land between $20 and $30. Franchise owner Jim Tovey, who moved to the area from Boston in 2017 after a career in financial services, put more than a million dollars into converting the shuttered Chili's building, a renovation slowed by permitting delays and a Miami contractor pulled into local hurricane recovery work before finally opening.

That is Viviani's own framing of the split-use design, part bar, part family table, part date-night room. It is a fair description of what the space is trying to be for a corridor that, until January, did not have anything quite like it.
The practical takeaway for Renaissance residents is simple: if you are the kind of household that treats a new opening as worth the extra ten minutes in the car, Chuck Lager is the current answer, and it is not on the road you would normally take.
Bell Tower Is Rebuilding Its Bench Too
North on Cleveland Avenue, Bell Tower has spent the past couple of years working through its own version of a comeback. The open-air center that once leaned heavily on national mall tenants has been adding restaurants rather than retail, and the newest name on that list is Burntwood Tavern, a casual American concept taking a spot between The Fresh Market and the center's southern anchor stores.
"We are looking forward to becoming part of the Fort Myers community," said Burntwood founder Bret Adams when the addition was announced, noting it would be the brand's second Southwest Florida location. It joins an already-built roster that includes Blue Pointe Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill, Cantina Laredo, DaRuMa Japanese Steak House, and The Capital Grille, the kind of lineup that signals Bell Tower is chasing a different crowd than it was a decade ago. The center also recently held its first-ever Restaurant Week, a small but telling sign that management wants Bell Tower thought of as a dining destination again, not just a stop for Ulta and Nordstrom Rack.
For a Renaissance household, Bell Tower is the polish tier: the place you go when the occasion calls for white tablecloths or at least a wraparound bar, not the place you go on a weeknight. What changed here is not geography, it is depth. There are simply more good options clustered in one lot than there were even two years ago.
So Which Way Do You Actually Drive Tonight
The honest answer depends less on what sounds new and more on what you are actually in the mood for, because Renaissance's three dining tiers are moving on three different timelines:
- Quick and familiar: Daniels Parkway still wins, unchanged and reliable, for breakfast, brunch, or a fast weeknight dinner.
- Something genuinely new: Alico Road and the Gulf Coast Town Center area is where 2026's real opening happened, and Chuck Lager is worth the extra drive at least once.
- A polished night out: Bell Tower has quietly added enough serious restaurants that it is worth reconsidering if you have not been in a while.
None of these tiers replaced another. They simply started moving at their own speed, which is why a search for "what's new near Renaissance" pointed a lot of residents in the wrong direction this year.
